Solid vs. Engineered Hardwood

Hardwood Flooring Options

We know that you desire that real hardwood look, and although the fakes are lower in price and almost indistinguishable to the real hardwood, it isn’t the same. The top hardwood brands such as: Rustic River Hardwood, Armstrong, Voyager, and Invincible have created the most beautiful hardwood colors in the industry, and with our design and installation expertise at Modern Carpet One Floor & Home, you will be confident in your flooring investment.

Solid vs. Engineered Hardwood

  • Solid: Solid hardwood is exactly what you think it is- a single piece of wood that is 100% natural. Solid hardwood is manufactured as one piece of plank and is typically ¾” thick.

  • Engineered: Engineered hardwood is manufactured as two layers. The top layers consists of a wood veneer while the bottom layer is made up of plywood, HDF, or solid wood. These layers are bonded under pressure and create a strong core that is incredibly stable.

Hardwood Flooring Pros vs. Cons

Hardwood floors complete any room, and let’s be honest, they are hands down gorgeous. One of the greatest benefits to hardwood floors is their numerous color styles and is considered to have the highest resale value. When purchasing a hardwood floor you can feel confident in your investment knowing that it will increase the value of your home.

Disadvantages of Hardwood Floors

There are many positive benefits to hardwood, but those don’t come without the cons. Unlike the LVT and vinyl lookalikes, solid and engineered hardwood can expand and contract in high moisture areas. Rooms with solid hardwood should be kept at a humidity level between 45-55 percent while engineered hardwood should be kept between 40-65 percent. Hardwood floors, especially the softer ones, are also more prone to denting.

Although hardwood floors may have its downside, there is not better reason to increase the value of your home and get the floor you have always dreamed about. At Modern Carpet One Floor & Home you will leave our store feeling good about your purchase, and if your floor isn’t up to your standards you are backed by our Beautiful Guarantee.
