Community Participation: A Smart House for our Veterans

Modern-Carpet-One-Annapolis-MD-Building-For-Americas-BravestAs part of being affiliated with Carpet One, we have the solid privilege to align with Building for America’s Bravest, an organization that helps to build smart homes for veterans that have been catastrophically injured. These smart homes feature useful elements like wider hallways, wider showers and iPads that help operate the house. Carpet One provides the installation services together with Mohawk who provides the flooring for the homes. We at Modern Carpet One in Annapolis, MD were honored to participate in building a smart home for Sgt. Adam Keys during the summer of 2015! Our team, along with Contract Carpet One in Beltsville, installed the tile flooring in the home. The hard tile surface makes it more manageable for Sgt. Keys to move around his home. We are proud to have played a part in completing this home and providing Sgt. Keys with a beautiful place to live.

Adam’s Story

“On July 14th, 2010, while serving a 12-month deployment in Afghanistan, SGT Adam Keys encountered a roadside bomb. As a result of the explosion, Adam suffered a brain injury, broken bones and an infection in his blood stream that resulted in the loss of both his legs and his left arm. Since the explosion, Adam has undergone well over 100 surgeries on his path to recovery.

Adam is a fan of the New York Jets, the Philadelphia Flyers, plays guitar, and enjoys going to concerts and listening to Tom Petty.

When asked about how a smart home will impact his life Adam replied, “Getting this home will allow my family and my future family to worry less about me and allow me to be the man I am.” -Building for America’s Bravest
